Meet Coach Abu Taalib Hussain, affectionately known as Coach Rich. He is a dedicated and passionate football coach hailing from Baldwin Hills, California. With over a decade of coaching experience, Coach Rich has become a beloved figure in the community, particularly in underserved areas like in the city of Compton and throughout Los Angeles County. So far his track record of coaching has led him to win multiple National Championships and Superbowl titles. However, his commitment extends beyond the football field, as he strives to instill resilience, motivation, and success in the young minds that he mentors.
Coach Rich's coaching journey began as a personal mission to inspire kids to become well-rounded citizens. He believes that the principles learned through football can translate into valuable life skills. Throughout the years, his teams have achieved numerous victories, showcasing the positive impact he has had on the lives of the young athletes he coaches.
Driven by a profound personal tragedy, Coach Rich established this nonprofit organization in memory of his son, Taalib Picantte, who shared his father's love for football. In 2013, Taalib fell victim to a drive-by shooting related to gang violence, leaving an indelible mark on Coach Rich's life. Determined to honor his son's memory, his mission is to continue Taalib's legacy by providing opportunities for underserved kids in the community.
The coach's vision is to combat systemic issues that disproportionately affect minority youth. Through his organization, Coach Rich advocates for safer communities, using coaching principles to inspire positive change and break the cycle of violence that claimed his son's life. His ultimate goal is to recruit more kids and volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment while nurturing the kids dreams of joining the NFL one day.
With a team comprising of kids between the ages of 6 and 14, Coach Rich remains committed to his motto: show kindness, be resilient, and have a strong sense of self, fostering not just athletes but well-rounded individuals who can overcome adversity and make a positive impact in their communities.
